Internet of Things hot topic at theme forum

The first theme forum of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai opened in Ningbo on Saturday, with renowned experts and entrepreneurs discussing information and communication technologies and urban development.

The two-day forum was organized by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Shanghai World Expo Executive Committee, International Telecommunication Union and Ningbo Municipal Government.

Participants of the forum include Internet pioneer Robert E. Kahn, CEO of Microsoft Online Lu Qi and Chinese Minis-ter of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong. They discussed topics ranging from cloud computing to Internet of Things (IOT), which refers to digital networks of physical objects.

IOT has become a popular catchword for industry experts who believe it has huge potentials but also faces many challenges, scientists, entrepreneurs and government officials said Sunday.
