A Spanish visitor to the Expo is to be reunited with the high-end mobile phone that he left in a Shanghai taxi, two weeks after returning to Spain.
The Spanish Consulate will ship the Blackberry 8520 to the Spanish man, whose name has not been revealed, in a couple of days, the Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority said in a press release Wednesday.
The phone was parted from its owner on May 2 when the careless tourist got out of a cab and bounded into the Expo Park, leaving the phone behind.
On finding the phone in his car, conscientious cabbie Wang Zunhong immediately reported it to his superiors at Shule Bus and Taxi Company.
Despite various attempts by authorities, including messages across the park's public address system and a search of the visitor database, the owner could not be located.
After two fruitless days, the Shanghai branch of China Mobile stepped in. A customer service officer named Chris contacted the phone's operator in Spain, Vodafone. He soon received an e-mail from Vodafone to say that the grateful owner had been found, ending the saga of the mid-range mobile phone mystery.
