DVD shops reopen after shutdown

Since the city began in getting tough on the sale of illegal DVDs in recent months, a reported 3,000 city shops selling the fake merchandise have been shut down since March, sending residents on a bit of an expedition for the latest blockbuster releases.
"The supposed-clampdown seems kind of pointless," a British expatriate who used to be a regular at the DVD shops on Dagu Road and who preferred to remain anonymous, told the Global Times Sunday. "Everyone still knows where the stores are, even when they move because word of mouth travels fast."
"Having to run around looking for the new shops has really just become more of an annoyance than anything else," he added.
