The State-owned company headquartered in Shenzhen, which mainly invests in real estate, declined to provide further details of the ongoing investigation, but said that rider safety has always been a top priority at Happy Valley.
"Officials from Songjiang district come every week to inspect our rides at Happy Valley," Wang Dansheng, deputy general manager of OCT Group Shanghai, told the Global Times Thursday.
Though the ride in question at Ecoventure Valley was made in China, many of the other rides, particularly the larger ones, hold the same safety standards as those used in Western countries, where they are imported from, including places such as the United States and Switzerland, according to Gao Bei, manager of marketing for OCT Group Shanghai.
Yet despite the fatal incident in Shenzhen earlier this week and the numerous ride problems that have occurred at Happy Valley since it opened last August, where 30 riders were most recently in March held airborne some 20 meters above the ground for 10 minutes before getting their feet back safely on the ground, local ride enthusiasts like Dong Jing said they do not scare easily.
"As long as Happy Valley remains open, I'll keep going to the park for the rides," the 28-year-old told the Global Times Thursday. "I love the thrill of them and how they get my adrenaline pumping."
