Stricter rules come too late for residents

According to Yao Jianguo, a lawyer specializing in relocation cases, the new rules are a good start, but without a third party in place, they will remain an empty gesture.

"There's no outside party to directly supervise disputes between residents and relocation companies when it comes to dealing with demolition projects that involve the relocation of households," he told the Global Times Thursday.

"Without this kind of thing in place, no one will be able to see that the rules are adhered to, and residents won't have an authority to turn to when they encounter serious problems," he added.

Meanwhile, the SMHSBA website Thursday said nothing of retroaction for relocation victims involved in the Disneyland project. A woman from the public affairs department of the administration told the Global Times that the only official able to comment on the issues was unable to take calls Thursday.
