Gongxing Moving, the largest moving company in the city, is asking Baidu to stop listing other businesses that are falsely claiming to be part of the enterprise, saying that these fake posts are hurting their reputation.

Gongxing Moving said that Baidu knows that there is only one Gongxing Moving company, but yet it continues to cooperate with other companies posing as their company through phony advertisements. In a letter sent to Baidu Wednesday, Gongxing Moving strongly requested that Baidu correct the problem within three working days.

According to the Shanghai Moving Profession Commission, there are only some 20 registered moving companies, but up to 300 illegitimate companies operating as moving companies, many of which are claiming to be Gongxing Mov-ing to attract more customers, reported Xinmin Evening News Wednesday.

The commission said that the unlicensed companies are over-charging customers for their services, which is tarnishing the reputation of registered moving companies and resulting in financial losses for them.

More than 700 complaints about this problem were made to the consumer complaints hot line last year by customers after they realized they had been cheated by such companies.

The commission said that for now all registered moving companies have stopped advertising with Baidu as of Wednesday to show how many fake moving companies are listed on China's largest search engine.

Meanwhile, Zhu Guang, spokesperson for the Beijing-based search engine company, told the Global Times Wednesday that he was unaware of the letter, and declined to comment on the issue.
