Shanghai Shopping Festival kicks off next week

Shanghai Shopping Festival 2010 will start next week on September 10 and run through to October 7, Shanghai Municipal Government announced Thursday.

Over 20,000 shopping outlets from more than 2,000 commercial enterprises will offer around 500 campaigns in an effort to promote domestic consumption across the city in the annual festival.

Nearly all outlets from convenience stores and supermarkets through to shopping malls in all the city's districts and counties, as well as restaurants and hotels, will be taking part. Internet and television shopping platforms will also be holding promotions.

A cluster of commercial activities will also be held both inside and outside of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, giving visitors the opportunity to stock up on World Expo-certified  products.

The first Shanghai Shopping Festival was launched on September 16, 2007. It was the first shopping-themed festival aimed at boosting domestic consumption launched on the Chinese mainland.
