A Formula One race car lookalike on Shanghai Ring Road turned out to be a KTM X-Bow, a newly-developed and radical lightweight sports car from Europe, according to a report by the Oriental Morning Post.
The car, without a license plate, was spotted Monday running at an estimated speed of over 120 kilometers per hour on the Inner-Ring Road that has a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour, and the people inside the car were supposedly wearing helmets.
Speculations came after a witness posted pictures of the car online. Some netizens were wondering if it was part of a film-shoot or test drive, and others dismissed it as either a publicity stunt or a just plain old dangerous driving.
The distributor for the KTM in China was quoted by Oriental Morning Post as saying that it would be difficult for them to get official approval for license plates as the car is designed without a windshield, but they have handed in application documents to relevant authorities.
