Original highlights

The Got Talent format has been adapted into more than 40 versions worldwide and each has been a winner in the ratings. The ratings of the first two episodes on Dragon TV are ahead of the ratings for the talent shows on other channels. The second episode attracted 13.07 percent of the audience in Shanghai and 2.1 percent of the audience nationwide.

After acquiring the rights from Fremantle Media, the show closely follows every detail in the production guidebook to maintain an accurate representation of the international title's style.

Unlike Dragon TV's previous talent shows, the tight format adds a "Western flavor" to the local show: the host makes fewer appearances, the comments from the judges are shorter and to the point, and the show screens clips of the acts rather than full performances.

There are 20 cameras in the studio shooting simultaneously, providing more than 150 tapes of each episode. But these are highly edited for the final broadcast.

"The editing keeps the most essential content. The audience doesn't need to waste time watching boring opening sequences and breaks," an anonymous editor told the Global Times.

Dragon TV is striving to adapt the show more to the taste and customs of a Chinese audience.

So, one of the three judges is Zhou Libo, the Shanghainese stand-up comedian, a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. "My job is to make the audience laugh, and I am happy whenever they laugh," he said.

His humor appeals to most, especially Shanghai audiences. "I watch the show every Sunday because of Zhou's hilarious comments," said a local audience, Fu Jun.

According to Jin, the show has invited the controversial British music executive, television producer and the judge of Britain's Got Talent Simon Cowell to make an appearance.

Cowell is famous on both sides of the Atlantic for this sharp, acerbic tongue. And they would like to bring the winners from all of the international versions of Got Talent to China for a special performance. "We really hope Cowell can come and experience the show in China," Jin said.
