Global Times: The overall gap between China and the US is getting smaller…do you think the two countries will have more strategic conflicts than strategic cooperation?

Sun: As the gap gets smaller, the strategic cooperation and tactical conflicts between China and the US will increase. Cooperation will be promoted in areas like environmental protection, actions against pirates, and reform of the international financial system. On the other side, with the economic connection between China and the US getting closer, the relationship is becoming more and more complicated and the frequency of conflicts will increase. A crisis should not be feared. The problem is when a crisis happens and there is no proper method to solve it. Therefore, both China and the US should promote greater communication between the two countries.
