Global Times: The overall gap between China and the US is getting smaller…will the two countries have more conflicts than cooperation?

Asgarkhani: China and the US will have both cooperation and conflict. The fact that the two countries will have cooperation doesn’t mean that they would not have conflict. Conflict and cooperation both generate each other. So, the future relationship between China and the US will be a matter of both conflict and cooperation. They will have to co-exist. In terms of strategic weapons, they will have conflicts. In terms of economic regimes, in terms of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) or WTO and financial matters, they are going to have cooperation. But in terms of strategy issues, security issues, in terms of arms control, they will have a lot of problems.
