Global Times: From the US/Australian perspective, what does the US’ putting more importance on China stand for? What influence it will bring to China-US/China-Australia relations? Will Australia adjust its foreign policy according to the development of the current Sino-US relationship? If so, what is the adjustment?

Fingar: I actually don’t think it symbolizes that the US is paying more attention to China. The Obama administration has made clear the importance of reaffirming the US’ relationships with its allies. That’s also adopted to make clear the importance of multilateral approaches to international problems, and that we have friends and partners around the world, we are now sort of allies. I wouldn’t read much more than that into it.

Will other countries adjust their policies? I don’t know why they would, because I don’t see any change in the US-China relationship.
