Global Times: The overall gap between China and the US is getting smaller…will the two countries have more conflicts than cooperation?

Chang: I think the two countries have no choice. I believe two large states will always have some issue that needs to be ironed out. For each of the issues, the two countries will have different opinions. But there is really no choice given we are on one earth, and the earth itself is under threat, the so-called “Garden of Eden” is lost. So given that threat, given the other factors such as the mutual benefits, I see no choice between the two countries but to cooperate.
