Global Times: Many people are talking about a G2 between China and the US. What do you think of that? Would this be a good thing for the respective countries and the world?
Muniruzzaman: In terms of the financial world, I think the two countries are the most influential economies, although we still have the Japanese economy, which is larger than China. But at the same time, the Japanese have never been constitutionally very strategically active because by their constitution; they are not supposed to have any military engagement outside their own country. So they have been under the US’ security umbrella since World War II and has not been independently strategically active. Therefore, when talking the combination of financial power and strategic and military power, certainly the two powers striking the world today are the Chinese and the Americans. It is quite evident that these are the two bigger players in the field of international diplomacy, international military and in the arena international strategy who should engage each other for not only their own interests, but also for global interests and regional interests.
