Chairman Mao Zedong met with US Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Henry Kissinger

On February 17, 1973, Chairman Mao Zedong met with US Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Henry Kissinger. During the visit, the two sides agreed to set up the respective liaison offices in each other's capitals in order to establish a direct link between the two countries. In May the same year, the two liaison offices were opened.
