It will be the first military parade carried out on a non-National Day occasion and the first such parade under Chinese President Xi Jinping since he took office in 2013. Wen Wei Po, a Hong Hong-based newspaper, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Beijing and attend the military parade. The news has not yet been officially announced by either government.
Editor's Note:
China will hold a military parade this year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45), Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on March 2.
Other events to mark the anniversary will include a rally, a reception and an evening gala in Beijing to be attended by President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders, Hua said, without revealing the dates of the events.
Chinese media outlet guancha.cn put together a series of photos of the weaponry that may appear in the parade.
