The Global Times on Thursday held its second readers' day since the first one in August to hear voices from readers so as to improve the quality of the newspaper.
Invited guests attending readers' day included officials from foreign embassies in China, journalists from local media and university professors. The readers gave their valuable opinions and suggestions to the Global Times.
Asked about which section they favor, many readers in the meeting said that they prefer the editorial and comment sections, which give them an inside view of domestic discussions about China.
"We very much appreciate that you can show us a window to China, not just politics," said a diplomat from the Austrian Embassy.
While some readers enjoy the editorial section, Barry Ball, Chief Architect from HKI China Land Limited, said that the Global Times should have more entertaining stories.
"People like me and my colleagues really don't have time to read from front page to back page. So from a causal reader's angle, you should have more interesting stories to get my attention and highlight those stories," Ball said in the meeting.
Some readers also gave their advice for the Global Times' website. One of the participants suggested that the website should be more user-friendly and add small functions like a printable format of the stories online.
At the end of the readers' meeting, three lucky guests were awarded gifts from the Global Times in a lucky draw.
