The news that Marie Fredriksson, the vocalist for Swedish pop rock band Roxette, passed away went viral on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo on Wednesday, leading many Chinese netizens to express their condolences online.
Fredrinksson had earned great fame and success as a solo singer in Sweden before forming the duo Roxette with Per Gessle in 1986. Roxette quickly became an internationally popular band with hit singles like "The Look," "Listen to Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love."
The duo held a concert in Beijing in 2005. Their songs are so popular in China that Hong Kong singer-actor Alan Tam even sang a Chinese version of the song "The Look."
Fredrinksson's single "Milk and Toast and Honey" was used in the 2016 Chinese TV series
Remembering Lichuan. In the show, the recently deceased Chinese actor Godfrey Tsao played the hero Wang Lichuan, who said Fredrinksson was his favorite singer.
Many Chinese netizens took to social media to express their sorrow over losing the two and many other talents in recent months.
"I feel I'm fading like a flower. There are people passing away every day but some voices will remain forever," wrote netizen Lemonchill on Sina Weibo.
