Firefighters are often called to help someone in an unusual predicament and now they have a new tool invented by one of their own that will safely and quickly cut a small object stuck on a person's body, such an imbedded wedding ring.
Firefighter Pan Zixiong, who works at a fire station in the city of Tianjin's Beichen district, has received a national patent for the device he invented after helping many people with objects stuck on their fingers, including some serious cases involving children, according to a video posted by WeVideo on social media on Tuesday.
Pan's device is designed to swiftly cut the objects that can't be removed by other means without injuring a person's finger or other body part.
The WeWideo shows Pan's device is as big as a telescope with a cradle for a person's finger and a clamped-down high-speed rotary tool at right angles to the metal object on the person's finger.
In the video, the blade of the rotary tool precisely cuts the ring on a person's finger without human assistance, as Pan is seen dribbling water on the person's finger to prevent burns during the cutting process, which took less than two minutes.
"The tool is a portable, quick cutting device that is faster and safer than manual cutting which can cause unintended injury," said Pan, adding that he is working on new prototypes that will be more portable.
The video had attracted many Chinese internet users' attention and was viewed more than 500,000 times as of Wednesday.
