The share of modern weapons in the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, which celebrate their 60th anniversary on Tuesday, has reached 76 percent, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
"The implementation of the planned measures for 2019 for the rearmament of the Strategic Missile Forces allowed to increase the share of modern missile weapons to 76 percent and to open for it new opportunities for solving nuclear deterrence tasks," said the statement.
Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin set the country's armed forces the task of raising the share of modern armaments and equipment to 70 percent from current 68 percent and keeping it at this level.
The Strategic Missile Forces, a branch of the Russian Armed Forces, control the country's land-based ballistic missiles, accounting for more than two-thirds of the country's strategic nuclear weapons, the ministry's statement said.
