While most kids are transfixed by video games, a nine-year-old boy in Central China's Hubei Province sits in front of his computer immersed in the rise and fall of stocks that he and his mother have invested in.
The boy and mom, who are unnamed in an online video posted by Pear Video, are seen sitting in front of their home computer screen trying to estimate when and why a stock will rise or fall. A thick notebook detailing their stock picks' performance sits in front of their monitor.
The parent-child duo aren't exactly successful investors. When they started following the squiggly lines and graphs on their stock market internet feed two years ago they promptly lost 30,000 yuan ($4,282), the mother said.
The boy says he picked the stocks randomly. "I follow my stocks whenever I have time."
The boy's mother says they've lost 70,000 yuan since they started following their stock picks. The mother blames poor market conditions on their losses but says she doesn't have any regrets as their pastime gives them something in common to talk about and is educational.
A netizen noticed Pear Video shows the boy using a mouse pad that has the logo of a casino in Macao.
