The producers of a Chinese version of Shakespeare classic
Hamlet, directed by Li Liuyi, revealed the play's tour schedule for 2020 on Tuesday. The drama, starring Hu Jun, Pu Cunxin and Lu Fan, will start its second national tour with a series of performances at Beijing's Poly Theater in 2020 from March 12 to 15.
"We refered to it as 'our'
Hamlet during the first tour to represent the efforts of the cast. The second tour we are calling it 'your'
Hamlet to represent the hope it will be acknowledged by audiences," Li said at a media event for the show on Tuesday.
This is Li's second adaptation of a Shakespeare classic. He previously adapted
King Lear for the Shakespeare Folio Translation Project by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
With its bold break from tradition, Li's
Hamlet has been well received by the audiences in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Hu, well-known for his roles on the small screen, said that stepping on the stage and playing
Hamlet is a great challenge for him. However, it is also an opportunity to reshape himself and his acting as well as find different ways to express himself.
