Beijing's Palace Museum will celebrate its 600th birthday by holding a series of cultural activities including seminars and forums, exhibitions and charity events in 2020.

As the world's biggest architectural compound made of wood, the Palace Museum continues to shine in the new era thanks to the many experts who are dedicated to researching the history of the ancient palace. The museum will publish some books on academic research written by the experienced professionals and will give awards to those who have made great contributions to the Palace Museum. Meanwhile, some international cultural seminars and forums will also be held to pave the way for the Palace Museum's next 600 years of development, according to the official WeChat account of the Palace Museum.

The Palace Museum will open some exhibitions whose themes cover ancient architecture, Chinese calligraphy and painting, ancient utensils, and Chinese and foreign civilizations, providing a new viewing experience.

For example, the "China and Versailles Exhibition" is based on the large-scale exhibition "China at Versailles: Art and Diplomacy in the 18th Century" held in the Palace of Versailles, France in 2014, and gives a comprehensive view of the cultural and artistic grandeur of China and France in the 18th century.

Besides the exhibitions, some film and television works are scheduled to be released in 2020. According to a report by people.cn, a large-scale epic drama called The Forbidden City is scheduled to have its premiere in Beijing before October 31, 2020.

"As the accumulation and crystallization of China's 5,000-year-old traditional culture, the Forbidden City carries the spirit and strength of our nation and the dreams and wisdom of our ancestors. The epic drama The Forbidden City will make these precious cultural resources come alive and show people the wisdom of history," said Shan Jixiang, former curator of the Palace Museum, in the people.cn report.

"I do like the Palace Museum, especially after watching the cultural season show Shangxinle Gugong. The exquisite and creative cultural accessories at the Palace Museum are very attractive, and I would like to buy them as gifts for my family and friends," Liu Tong, an English teacher based in Beijing, told the Global Times on Thursday.

Shangxinle Gugong is a show hosted by Chinese actors Deng Lun and Zhou Yiwei about the history and culture of the Palace Museum. They also work with top designers to produce some cultural products including key rings, bookmarks and bags in the show. The third season will be released in 2020, and some cultural products such as commemorative vouchers, coins and special stamps for the 600th anniversary of the Palace Museum will also be released.
