China will continue its fair stance and take the right path for sustaining peace and security in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said Monday.
China will play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf Region, said Geng Shuang, in response to a query on if China will increase the presence of security personnel in the region amid rising tensions between US and Iran.
Although Iran has been forced to reduce compliance due to external factors, it has also demonstrated restraint and clearly expressed its political will to comprehensively implement the entire agreement, without violating its obligations under the NPT, Geng said.
The US has unilaterally withdrawn from the nuclear deal, disregarding international law and obligations, which exerted extreme pressure on Iran besides preventing other parties from fulfilling their obligations. US military action against Iran violated basic standards of international relations and intensified tension in the region; China has always opposed the use of violence in dealing with international issues; military force and extreme pressure have no way out, Geng added.
It should be the primary starting point for all parties to deal objectively and fairly with the Iranian nuclear issue, Geng said.
