Intelligent mobile temperature-measuring vehicles independently developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling automobile company (SGMW) were delivered to the government of Liuzhou, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Thursday, another example of how China is using high technology in its fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak.
The series of new-energy vehicles, branded Bao Jun, is equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) detection and infrared temperature measuring systems, which can accurately recognize people's faces and measure temperatures from two meters away, with a 0.2 C margin of error, the company told media.
When someone is found to have a fever, the vehicle sounds a voice warning and points out the person with the symptom.
In addition to SGMW's temperature-measuring machines, AI robots have been used in the frontline battle against coronavirus in Xiaoshan district, East China's Hangzhou, to spread knowledge of virus prevention among the public. A small tank-shaped disinfection robot that can be controlled remotely is also being used in the city to reduce the risk of infection for sanitation workers.
Previously, the automobile company SGMW had been praised for establishing production lines to produce mask-making machines and make masks after the COVID-19 outbreak. According to reports, SGMW's maximum daily production is about 2 million facial masks, which are not for the market but only for donation to frontline medical staff.
