Kobe Bryant's social media accounts announced the release of the newest novel in his original sports fantasy series on Wednesday, generating another round of mourning for the star among Chinese netizens.
The new chapter was posted on Instagram and China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo account. "Welcome back to Dren! We hope you are all ready to catch up with the West Bottom Badgers for another magical basketball season. The #Wizenard# Series: Season One is OUT NOW," the post said.
The announcement touched many Chinese netizens, earning the related hashtag more than 300 million views as of Wednesday afternoon, making it one of the hottest topics on Sina Weibo.
Chinese netizens expressed their continued sadness over the death of the star, with many noting they were still having a hard time believing he was gone.
"He updated his social media accounts on April Fools' Day. Does that mean the sad news was just a prank and he were still living somewhere happily?" one Sina Weibo user commented.
Another netizen also said they hoped that the deaths of the star and his daughter had never happened and were just some twisted joke.
"Long time no see, my man! Welcome back! I knew you would never leave us," another netizen wrote under the post announcing the novel on Sina Weibo.
The 41-year-old NBA star was killed along with his second daughter and several others in a helicopter crash on January 26 in California, which shocked and saddened fans across the world.
