Wuhan hospitals have prepared medical supplies to send to Manzhouli in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, supporting the China-Russia border city in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Medical equipment, including urgently needed extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines and respirators, will be transported to Manzhouli from Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province on Friday afternoon, the People's Daily reported on Friday.
This batch of donations was provided by Wuhan's Union Hospital and Tongji Hospital, and is worth over 15 million yuan ($2.1 million) in total.
Manzhouli, China's largest land port with a population of 300,000, is facing mounting pressure to prevent imported cases from Russia. It had reported 74 imported cases and 10 suspected cases by 7 am on Friday.
Having received abundant support during its outbreak and lockdown, Wuhan has begun offering a helping hand to other regions as its situation has largely improved. There are reportedly fewer than 100 serious and critical COVID-19 cases in the city once hardest hit by the virus.
Before shipping donations to Manzhouli on Friday, Wuhan sent 5 million yuan worth of medical supplies to Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, which also faces increasing imported infections from Russia.
