The Chinese mainland reported two imported cases of COVID-19 infection and one local case during the 24 hours on Sunday. The local infection, reported in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, brings the number of the province's current cases to 67, according to the National Health Commission on Monday.

The local case was found in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang, which so far has reported 61 confirmed cases and 19 asymptomatic patients, including a new silent carrier confirmed on Sunday.

Harbin recently became the new hardest-hit region of China due to clustered infections caused by a woman travelling from overseas, surnamed Han.

The newly reported case was a close contact of one patient confirmed on April 14, who was Han's neighbor.

As of Sunday, 87 cases have been reported to be involved in clustered infections in Harbin since April 9.

One official from the Harbin health commission said at Sunday's press meeting that the cases in the city show a typical relevance and all of them were determined via thorough and careful tracking, and have been put into medical observation.

He stressed that with a clear transmission chain, the city's epidemic situation is controllable.

The two new imported cases on Sunday were confirmed in South China's Guangdong Province and Northeast China's Jilin Province, respectively.

The Chinese mainland's tally of current confirmed cases stands at 723, with local cases dropping to less than 100, according to an official from the National Health Commission at Monday's press conference.
