China Southern Airlines on Wednesday unveiled its new base at the Beijing Daxing International Airport, shifting its Beijing operational center from the Beijing Capital International Airport.
The new airport was put into use at the end of September last year, and the airline's move is widely regarded to reveal its ambitions to build two hubs in Guangzhou and Beijing.
The first phase of its Daxing base has a total construction space of 360,000 square meters, including operation control, crew attendance, comprehensive office and passenger accommodation areas.
After relocation, the airlines' new base will become Asia's largest operation and control center, largest single hangar, and largest aviation food base, according to a note China Southern sent to the Global Times.
On April 12th, China Southern Airlines began working toward its largest-scale shift to the Daxing airport. The cumulative transfer rate for the summer and autumn seasons will reach 60 percent of its total fleet sum this year.
It is estimated that by March 2021, all China Southern flights to and from Beijing will be transferred to the Daxing airport. By 2025, the carrier s is expected to have more than 200 aircraft at Daxing airport, with more than 900 daily take-offs and landings.
