Two experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) came to China for scientific cooperation on novel coronavirus traceability in mid-July, and they held in-depth communication with Chinese scientists on people infected by the virus, the environment and transmission route, as well as the scientific research involved in the next step, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin introduced the work of the two WHO experts at Wednesday's media briefing, saying that the WHO experts had multiple video conferences with their Chinese counterparts during their quarantine in China.

The two sides talked about scientific research on the population infected by novel coronavirus, the environment, molecules, animal tracing and transmission routes in the global scientific community, Wang said.

He said that China and the WHO have a basic consensus that virus traceability is a scientific issue, and scientists should carry out international scientific research and cooperation on a global scale.

The WHO will conduct similar visits to other countries and regions when needed. We hope that all relevant countries will adopt a positive attitude like China in cooperating with the WHO, Wang said.
