The second East Lake International Ecological Sculpture Biennale will kick off in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province, in March 2021, the event's organizers announced on Sunday.

The upcoming biennale, which takes "100%" as its theme, will feature 50 different sculptures, 30 of which will be from international artists. With the aim of promoting the use of environmentally friendly materials and new media technology, the organizers will invite 20 artists to create works specially tailored for the event.

The first biennale, which kicked off in 2017 as the first ecological-themed exhibition in China, helped raise public awareness about environmental issues.

With the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, the whole world shares the same issue, which creates an opportunity for artists from around the globe to share their thoughts on a shared subject through their art.

Fu Zhongwang, the biennale's artistic director, said that the new biennale will promote diversified and creative methods as well as today's popular new media formats.
