With China fighting food wastage during the "Clean Your Plate Campaign," a university in Luoyang, Central China's Henan Province, has started offering thousands of kilograms of fruit for free every day to students who finish all the food on their plates.
Under the initiative, students at Luoyang Normal University can enjoy daily buffets at the school's canteen, and exchange their clean plates for fruit.
A deputy manager from the university canteen said that each canteen offers 750 kilograms of free fruit every day, such as apples, oranges and pears, enough for the 5,000 to 6,000 students at the university, reported Pear Video on Saturday.
The school's idea was welcomed by students. Some said they are happy to have free fruit while being inspired to save food at the same time.
"I have to say the reward is a good incentive for me. I used to not care very much about how much food I take from the buffet, but now I will think twice about the amount I can finish before I take it," one student commented on Sina Weibo.
