After 30 years of being on the run, a 52-year-old man turned himself in to the police and confessed his "crime" of being involved in a group fight in Yinchuan, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, only to find that he was innocent, the Beijing News reported on Tuesday.
Upon learning of his innocence, the man burst into tears for all the years he had wasted as a fugitive, during which time both his parents passed away.
The man, surnamed Zhou, was involved in a group fight triggered by a dispute in 1990. Not knowing if he had injured anyone, Zhou fled the scene after the fight.
The next morning, Zhou returned to the scene and found a police car parked there, leading him to believe that he was involved in a criminal case.
Thus began his life as a fugitive, during which time he made a living by working in mines and brick factories or collecting recyclable items.
However, when he finally decided to turn himself in, the police did not find any information on him on their wanted list.
