A newly wedded couple in Northeast China's Liaoning Province became a hit on China's social media recently, after finding out on their first date that they were next-door neighbors, a coincidence that many called "literally a perfect match."
The couple, surnamed Zhai and Lan, came to know each other through a WeChat group for residents in a local community in Anshan, Liaoning, during the pandemic in June, People's Daily reported on Monday.
Zhai caught Lan's attention after unconventionally introducing himself in the group chat with what looked like a marriage-seeking advertisement. The two hit it off immediately.
After days of chatting online, the two finally decided to meet in person. On their very first date, they were surprised to find that they were in fact next-door neighbors.
In Chinese, the phrase "men dang hu dui" describes a perfectly matched marriage, and translates into "matching doors and parallel windows."
In this case, the figurative meaning has become a literal one, bringing the topic to the top of the search bar on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
