A deliveryman from Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, was struck on the head by a customer he was delivering food to, because "he called me on the phone when I clearly asked him not to," according to the customer.

The customer, surnamed Wang, left a note in his order, reminding the deliveryman not to make a phone call but to knock on the door upon arrival.

However, Wang did not specify the room number on the address, The Paper reported on Monday.

When the deliveryman, surnamed Feng, arrived at his building, he was unable to find which room Wang was in, and had to call him to confirm.

When the door finally opened, Feng was met with a scolding, which later escalated into a fight during which Wang kicked Feng down the stairs and beat him on the head.

Feng is now hospitalized, and has so far spent over 30,000 yuan ($4,476) on medical treatment. Wang was detained by the police for seven days and was fined 300 yuan.

The incident drew a backlash on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo, with furious netizens calling for more serious punishment for deliberately hurting an innocent man.
