The 300-meter high "Gate of the Orient" currently under construction in Suzhou was ridiculed by netizens for its resemblance to a pair of "low-waist long johns" after a local Web user posted a group of photos of the building online.
At 69 stories tall, "Gate of the Orient" stands to be the world's largest arched building, xinmin.cn reported. Construction began in 2004 and is slated for completion in 2013.
@手机用户1773692974: The new CCTV Tower in Beijing, which earned the nickname "big underpants", is in the north, while this one, "low-waist long johns" is in the south. It's like they're dressing their buildings to fit the climate.
@Zhibin_Ben: People always remember two kinds of things – extreme beauty and ugliness. Maybe they thought it's not easy to be the most beautiful, so they decided it's easier to build an impressively ugly building.
@流川贝: I think we shouldn't make fun of a building that hasn't been finished yet, especially in such a low class way.
@湘人知秋一叶: I expect a G-string building will be built in a city someday.
