Located southwest of downtown Shanghai, Songjiang district is one of the birthplaces of the city's history and culture. Dating back more than 6,000 years, it has long been known as "the root of Shanghai," "the mountain peak of Shanghai," "the source of the Huangpu River" and "the garden city." Today, the district glimmers in a landscape of lakes and mountains, with more than 20 scenic spots, including five sites rated AAAA - the second highest rating for a tourist attraction - and two sites rated AAA.

Shanghai Happy Valley AAAA



Covering 90 hectares, Happy Valley, the city's first large-scale amusement park, offers thrills for visitors of all ages. The park contains seven major theme parks: Sunshine Beach, Happy Times, Shanghai Beach, Shangri-la Woods, Ant Kingdom, Gold Mine Town and Typhoon Bay. The park is home to more than 100 attractions, 3D and 4D cinemas and a grand theater.

Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort AAAA (National Eco-tourism Demonstration Area)



Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort, the only natural mountain forest resort in Shanghai, covers 401 hectares. The resort encompasses 12 mountains that stretch 13.2 kilometers from southwest to northeast, among which East Sheshan Mountain, West Sheshan Mountain, Tianma Mountain and Xiaokun Mountain are open to the public. Sheshan Shicui or "the green landscape of Sheshan Mountain" is one of Shanghai's eight new attractions. Sheshan Xiuhuang, Xieta Chuxue and Huating Heying are three of Songjiang district's 24 attractions, which respectively describe "the slender bamboo on Sheshan Mountain," "the tilted tower in the first snowy days in Tianmashan Park" and "the cranes in Huating, today's Songjiang district."

Shanghai Sculpture Park AAAA



Shanghai Sculpture Park is a cultural and art park that combines modern sculpture, hills, water and landscape designs. Covering an area of 87 hectares, the park consists of spring, summer, autumn and winter shore zones around Yuehu Lake. The four zones are designed with the concept of "returning to nature and enjoying art" and illustrate the charms of the four seasons. The sunken museum, waterside platform, fancy Qiu Yue Fang restaurant, Homa Moon Lake Hotel of Modern Art and other facilities in the park make it an ideal place for a fun day out. Yuehu Chenbi, which compares the tranquil Yuehu Lake with a piece of jade, is one of the 24 attractions of Songjiang district.

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden AAAA



Chenshan Botanical Garden is a comprehensive botanical garden with a beautiful landscape, integrated scientific research, science popularization and sightseeing. With an area of 207 hectares, it consists of four function areas: a central display area, a native plant conservation area, an area for plants from five continents and a peripheral buffering area. Featuring three large greenhouses, the park is regarded as the biggest botanical greenhouse of its kind in Asia.

Shanghai Fangta Park AAAA (Shanghai Five-star Park)



Shanghai Fangta Park was built in 1978 on the site of the former commercial center of Shanghai during both the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Song Dynasty (960-1279). Covering an area of 12 hectares, the park mainly features historical and cultural artifacts, including seven national-, city- and district-level historical structures. At the center of the park sits Fangta, or square pagoda, which was built during Northern Song (960-1127). Encircling the pagoda are the Song Dynasty bridge, Ming Dynasty wall, stone gardens and other attractions. The park has been referred to as Shanghai's open-air museum. Fangta Fengling, one of Songjiang's 24 attractions, invites visitors to enjoy the pleasant tones of copper bells hanging at the corners of the pagoda.

Shanghai Film Park AAA (National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Area)



Shanghai Film Park is a theme park combining film and television shoots, sightseeing and cultural communication. Inside the park, visitors can wander through period replicas of Nanjing Road in the 1930s, shikumen - a traditional style of Shanghai dwelling, the Suzhou Creek neighborhoods, foreign company warehouses, the Zhejiang Road Steel Bridge and the Sichuan Road Bridge. Visitors can also ride a carriage or tram car around the park to see medieval wineries and other European buildings, including Catholic churches built in several architectural styles. Haishang Xunmeng (which means one can look for the old Shanghai) is listed among Songjiang's 24 attractions.

Zuibaichi Park AAA



Zuibaichi Park, with an area of 5 hectares, is one of the five classical gardens in Shanghai. Dating back more than 350 years, the park was once the private garden of Dong Qichang, a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) painter and calligrapher. Dong and his friends frequently got together in the park. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Gu Dashen, an official from the imperial ministry of works, reconstructed the garden and renamed it Zuibaichi. Zuibai Qinghe, which refers to the lotus in the park, is one of the district's 24 attractions.

Located alongside Huating Lake in Songjiang New Town, Thames Town covers 100 hectares, including 500,000 square meters of buildings. Nearly 60 percent of the town is covered by green space, which is surrounded by residential compounds. The British-style town boasts a museum, Star Theatre, cruise terminals, churches, castles, parks, shopping streets, hotels, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and gyms. It's also one of the most popular places for wedding photography. The place combines both the characteristics of classic British towns and modern cities. Yinglun Yinxiang - literally British image, is one of the district's 24 attractions.

Guangfulin Relics Park (I-phase)



Guangfulin Relics Park is situated at the site where relics of late Liangzhu culture (3400BC-2250BC), the last Neolithic jade culture of the Yangtze River Delta region, were found.

The park covers 150,000 square meters and will be constructed in three stages. The completed first phase includes Fulin Lake, Zhiye Temple, exhibition halls, ancient houses and a floating museum. The park houses manicured plant arrangements resembling a classical Chinese garden.

Songjiang Wushe Agricultural Leisure and Sightseeing Park (National Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Area)



Songjiang Wushe Agricultural Leisure and Sightseeing Park is situated in a water conservation zone in the upper reaches of the Huangpu River. The 200-hectare park, home to many excellent hotels and restaurants, is an integrated rural tourist spot where visitors can enjoy recreation, vacation and outdoor activities. There is the Green Grapery, the Tomato Farm, an agricultural science popularization exhibition hall, a botanical garden and a farm that allows visitors to handpick fresh fruit and vegetables.

Xinbang Town Tourist and Leisure Area



Located in southwestern Songjiang district, Xinbang town boasts the Xuelanghu Resort, Lotus Commune, the city's largest peony garden, fruit and vegetable farms, wharves and a museum featuring exhibits about farmers who fought for their rights in old days. The annual lotus festival is one of the town's best-known attractions.
