This month is a special occasion for the graduates of the art school of Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU) in Dalian, Liaoning Province. On June 8, DPU hosted a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of art school's founding. The party secretary of DPU Ge Jiping, the university's president Zou Jiyan and the entire management team were in attendance together with more than 6,000 teachers, students and former graduates, friendly groups and artists from both home and abroad.
At the event, Zou expressed his congratulations in an opening speech. Zou said that art is a reflection of how mankind pursues the good things in life and the motivation for innovation.
"In the past 30 years, we have had great passion toward art. We expanded the size of the school, improved the quality of education and strengthened the social impact of our school," Zou said.
The president of the art school Wang Shouping, also expressed his regards to the participating guests.
Meanwhile, Ge offered a letter of appointment to Martial Chmielina, president of École Supérieure d'art du Nord-Pas de Calais, who was appointed as deputy chairman of the International Microsimulation Association (IMA). The deputy president of DPU Ren Wendong also presented certificates to visiting professors from Italy, the US, and Australia.
Established in 1958 as the Shenyang Institute of Light Industry, the university was christened as DPU in 1970.
With constant efforts from both teachers and students, the university has made great progress in discipline construction, personnel training, external communication, research and education. Currently, DPU has more than 6,000 full-time undergraduates and 600 postgraduates, and the art school is making a positive contribution to the general development of the university. In 2014, the art and design major at DPU ranked among the top 5 percent of all similar majors at domestic universities.
DPU has also been active in bridging external communications with universities overseas by exchanging students for academic interactions. Apart from that, international forums, exhibitions and performances in education, art and technology have also won DPU worldwide attention.
