China will support a new UN resolution to prevent nuclear and ballistic missile development by North Korea, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told US Secretary of State John Kerry during their meeting in Munich on February 12.
Wang said tough and effective measures should be adopted against North Korea's recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch which violated UN resolutions and challenged international efforts on nuclear non-proliferation, according to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the meantime, Wang stressed that sanctions are not the end, but means toward bringing the nuclear talks back on track, which accords with both Chinese and US interests.
In a previous report by Reuters, Wang was quoted as saying that China will back a UN Security Council resolution to make North Korea pay the necessary price for its recent rocket launch.
During their meeting, Wang Yi also urged the US not to deploy the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system to South Korea, and requested the US practice prudence and not to damage the interest of China or add complexity to regional stability.
