A Beijing resident surnamed Wu reported that a glass cup he bought from IKEA exploded before dawn on Monday. He said the cup was sitting on his nightstand with room temperature water inside it when it exploded and almost hurt him, the Beijing Times reported.

A Sina Weibo post with photos provided by Wu shows shards of glass scattered over his bed and floor. The post soon went viral.

Wu said he bought it in February at the IKEA Xihongmen store in Daxing district. He reached IKEA's customer service department on Monday morning. "They said that the glass meets qualification standards, but due to its being made of armored glass, there's an explosive rate of 0.3 to 0.5 percent," Wu said.

IKEA Beijing's marketing department said they are investigating the matter.
