The week-long 6th Beijing International Film Festival came to a close on Saturday night at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention & Exhibition Center.
Argentina film Paulina, directed by Santiago Mitre, was the biggest winner, taking away the best feature film, best screenplay and best actress awards.
This film focuses on the unfair treatment of women in Buenos Aires by following rape survivor Paulina as she strives to put her life back together.
An Idealist, a story based on a real political scandal in Denmark won the best director award. The film tells the story of a journalist investigating a nuclear accident which affected the lives of thousands.
Films commemorating World War II formed a crucial lineup for this year's nominees.
Land of Mine from Argentina and
I am a Teacher from Russia are both stories that take the war as their background.
A total of 433 films from 43 countries and regions applied to compete in this year's film festival. Among those, 230 were overseas films and 203 were from China. After four rounds of selection, 15 films made it onto the shortlist.
The 15 nominated films were from 12 countries, including China, Spain, Argentina, Poland and Georgia.
"Those films shine a light upon diversity," said Brett Ratner, director of the
Rush Hour films, producer of
The Revenant and this year's jury chairman.
Together with Ratner, Romanian director and producer Corneliu Porumboiu, Hong Kong director Teddy Chan, German director Florian Henckel Donnersmarck, Japanese director Takita Youjirou, Bosnian director, screenwriter and producer Denis Tanovic and Chinese actress Xu Qing formed the jury this year.
Now entering its sixth year, the relatively young Beijing International Film Festival has grown rapidly since its inception.
