The Miao ethnic minority celebrated bounty and harvest with a traditional Dog-carrying Festival in Jiaobang of Jianhe county, Guizhou Province on September 2, 2017. People from neighboring villages gathered to participate in this unique traditional festival held in celebration and prayer for the year’s harvest. The festival is said to be a display of gratitude for the dogs that helped the ancient Miao farmers find water for their crops. During the ceremonies, dogs are dressed in hats and clothing, and carried through villages on wooden sedan chairs. Photos: VCG
