Editor's Note:
A total of 101 pangolins valued at $1.5 million dollars was seized by naval authorities in Indonesia on October 25, 2017. The critically endangered animals have been handed over to the Natural Resources Conservation Center in Riau, Indonesia. Pangolins that died during the journey were cremated by authorities.
Driven by high demand for its meat and scales on the black market, poaching and trafficking have caused pangolins to be one of the most critically endangered mammals in the world.
