With a cost of $288 million and facing unique challenges, the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is the world’s lowest altitude five-star hotel built in a quarry with some rooms underwater. Stretching 88 meters underground, the 18-story luxury hotel features two floors above the ground and 16 floors below the quarry edge.
