Security tightens around Tiananmen Square ahead of ‘two sessions’

Policemen patrol Tiananmen Square in Beijing on February 29. China’s armed police, SWAT teams and other police units stepped up patrols around the area ahead of the two sessions. The annual meetings of National Committee of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People's Congress (NPC) will open on March 3 and March 5 respectively. Beijing Municipal Police Bureau dispatched an average 26,000 policemen a day during the two sessions in 2015, according to people.com.cn. Photo: CFP
