Photos taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA show the surface of Mars. China will explore Mars in 2020, said Ouyang Ziyuan, an academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist of China’s first lunar mission, on July 8, 2019.

Photo shows a dramatic, fresh impact crater, captured by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on November 19, 2013. The crater spans approximately 100 feet (30 meters) in diameter and is surrounded by a large, rayed blast zone. As the terrain where the crater formed is dusty, the fresh crater appears blue in the enhanced color of the image, due to removal of the reddish dust in that area. Photo: VCG
Photo taken on August 31, 2013 captures the interaction of two distinct types of windblown sediments. This colorful scene is situated in the Noctis Labyrinthus region of Mars, perched high on the Tharsis rise in the upper reaches of the Valles Marineris canyon system. Photo: VCG
