Editor's Note:
As one of the largest ghettos in Brazil, Complexo da Maré is located near Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport, and is home to a population of 140,000 people. For many young residents living here, the Luta Pela Paz (Fight for Peace) boxing school provides an escape from life under the ruling drug gangs, building discipline and self-respect through boxing and martial arts. At present the school has more than 1,000 students enrolled.
