Li Lanjuan, 72, renowned female Chinese epidemiologist and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, took part in a plantation program at the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, on Monday, as a mark of gratitude to all the medics who have assisted in the city's COVID-19 battle.
In response to journalists' suggestion to take more rest, Li said being engaged in saving patients' lives and fighting against the epidemic, bring her utmost joy.
"I don't think I should take rest because the mission in Wuhan hasn't been accomplished yet, and there are many critical patients to treat. The epidemic control situation in our country is still serious because the confirmed cases are rising sharply overseas, and the risk of imported cases in China is high, which greatly worries me," said Li.
She further noted, "I hope the imported cases will not bring a second wave of the coronavirus epidemic. Megacities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou that have frequent international exchanges, are under high risks of imported cases. We have survived the difficult test of COVID-19, now is the time to accept the challenge of preventing imported cases that might bring another outbreak."
