Built in the 15th century, the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in Cusco, Peru, has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1983 for being “an absolute masterpiece of architecture and a unique testimony to the Inca civilization." It stands at an altitude of 2,430 meters and is regarded as a must-see destination in Peru.
