Beijing Wildlife Rescue Center was established in 2001. The rescue of terrestrial wildlife in Beijing is one of the core tasks of the center and 10 people at the center undertake this emergency rescue task.
Shi Yang, chief of the rescue department, told GT that the treatment of wild animals is very different from the treatment of hospital patients, as most wild animals are not suited to living in an artificial breeding environment. The GT photographer recorded a pond heron being rescued in Shunyi District, Beijing and a brown-bellied woodpecker that had just been admitted to hospital after an impact injury. (Photos: Li Hao/GT)
